My name\u2019s Dave. I\u2019ve been in this lab since before most of my colleagues were born. I\u2019ve used five different melt flow testers, and I\u2019ve got calluses from wrestling with valve levers and burns from impatiently touching hot barrels. \ud83d\ude05<\/span><\/p>\n

So when our procurement guy said, \u201cTry this SKZ1059B,\u201d I rolled my eyes. Another \u201cgame\u2011changer\u201d? Please.<\/span><\/p>\n

But he set it up anyway. I decided to run my usual reference material \u2013 just to prove it was like all the others.<\/span><\/p>\n

First thing I noticed \u2013\u00a0<\/span>no valve opening<\/span><\/strong>. The rail sampler moved like a precision drawer. No jerking, no sticking. I actually checked twice to make sure it wasn\u2019t broken.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then the\u00a0<\/span>centre\u2011positioned boat<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0gave me a melt ring so even I could see the difference with my naked eye. No more chasing cold spots.<\/span><\/p>\n

I poked the\u00a0<\/span>7\u2011inch touchscreen<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 and the auto\u2011calculation spat out the MFR before I could reach for my calculator. I checked it manually anyway. Spot on.<\/span><\/p>\n

After the run, I grabbed the barrel out of habit \u2013 and pulled my hand back because it\u00a0<\/span>wasn\u2019t<\/span><\/em>\u00a0hot.\u00a0<\/span>Rapid cooling<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0had brought it below 50\u00b0C in under three minutes. I could have started another run while my coffee was still lukewarm.<\/span><\/p>\n

I ran five replicates. All passed ISO, ASTM, IEC \u2013 and the standard deviation was half of what I\u2019m used to.<\/span><\/p>\n

That evening, I told the young techs: \u201cThis one\u2019s different. You don\u2019t have to fight it \u2013 just let it work.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Now I actually look forward to melt flow tests. After 22 years, that\u2019s saying something.<\/span><\/p>\n
