My name’s Dave. I’ve been in this lab since before most of my colleagues were born. I’ve used five different melt flow testers, and I’ve got calluses from wrestling with valve levers and burns from impatiently touching hot barrels. 😅

So when our procurement guy said, “Try this SKZ1059B,” I rolled my eyes. Another “game‑changer”? Please.

But he set it up anyway. I decided to run my usual reference material – just to prove it was like all the others.

First thing I noticed – no valve opening. The rail sampler moved like a precision drawer. No jerking, no sticking. I actually checked twice to make sure it wasn’t broken.

Then the centre‑positioned boat gave me a melt ring so even I could see the difference with my naked eye. No more chasing cold spots.

I poked the 7‑inch touchscreen – and the auto‑calculation spat out the MFR before I could reach for my calculator. I checked it manually anyway. Spot on.

After the run, I grabbed the barrel out of habit – and pulled my hand back because it wasn’t hot. Rapid cooling had brought it below 50°C in under three minutes. I could have started another run while my coffee was still lukewarm.

I ran five replicates. All passed ISO, ASTM, IEC – and the standard deviation was half of what I’m used to.

That evening, I told the young techs: “This one’s different. You don’t have to fight it – just let it work.”

Now I actually look forward to melt flow tests. After 22 years, that’s saying something.
